Welcome to summer! Chamber staff are balancing summer holidays with planning time and meetings with members, prospective members, and community partners, and are looking forward to our first summer Business After Hours in a number of years at Chiefswood Park in Oshweken next week. See below for details. Staff were pleased to attend a Community Economic Development Roundtable in Brant-Brantford Region hosted by the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario this morning at the GREAT Boardroom in Oshweken, with many of our local partners in economic development, education, and small business.
In other Advocacy matters, the Chamber has joined 129 other local Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Trade, and associations in signing a letter to the Prime Minister, urging federal interference in ending the strike action at Canada’s West Coast ports. See the letter here.
This past week we also featured the OCC’s Home Stretched policy brief, providing key recommendations to support all levels of government as they tackle Ontario’s housing crisis. The Chamber is proud to have contributed to this initiative, and we look forward to working with all levels of government and industry to meet the housing needs of our communities. The Board of Directors and the Executive are also active on this file on a couple of other fronts. Read the brief again here: https://occ.ca/wp-content/uploads/OCC-Housing-Affordability-Brief.pdf
Finally, from the City of Brantford and local businesses, including Chamber member SWEET Bakery, from July 4 to August 31, 2023, residents and visitors are encouraged to visit discoverbrantford.ca/SaveInTheCity every Monday to discover daily, weekly and summer-long deals from a wide variety of Brantford businesses. Deals will include specials on local art, music, outdoor adventure, food and drink, accommodations and much more.
The campaign is delivered by Discover Brantford in partnership with SWEET Bakery and Brantford Finders Keepers, and was created to encourage residents and visitors to support Brantford businesses during the summer. Following the boom of online shopping and local support during the COVID-19 pandemic, some small- and medium-size businesses, including Finders Keepers, identified a need for greater support. Save in the City aims to improve reach, traffic, and local support for local businesses.
Save in the City deals will be promoted across Discover Brantford’s social media accounts and the Discover Brantford blog, and the public is encouraged to share the best deals they find with the hashtag #SaveintheCity.
For more information and weekly deals, visit: discoverbrantford.ca/SaveInTheCity. Brantford businesses who wish to get involved and have their deal listed on the site may contact the Discover Brantford team at: tourism@brantford.ca.
See you next week at Chiefswood Park!
