Welcome to August! A few quick notes below this week as we begin three regular weeks of staff vacation time. There will be no e-news next week, and we hope you enjoy your August Civic Holiday long weekend.

In 2008, the Ontario Legislature passed a law identifying the first of August as “Emancipation Day“, as the British Parliament abolished slavery in the British Empire as of 1 August 1834. Congratulations to Chamber member Brantford Apparel/Unite Against Hate! for the successful Emancipation Day event this past weekend, held at Mohawk Park.

A special congratulations as well to Crewfest for an outstanding event on Saturday, held at Lion’s Park, and for navigating the weather and logistics challenges successfully.

One more congratulations to the Williamson Family, City of Brantford, Brant Waterways, and Oak House Benefits for the opening of the Margot and Paul Williamson Family Pavilion at Waterworks Park. Thank you to the Williamson family for your ongoing commitment to improving Brantford-Brant.

Get out there and enjoy the weather when you can!

Dave
